Jaycee-TD Banknorth Baseball League
n 1946 the Hartford Jaycees and the Hartford Courant decided to form a summer baseball League in the greater Hartford area and named the league the Jaycee Courant League. The League has been under three directors since its inception: Ed Knapp, Charles Horvath and Peter Kokinis. Kokinis has directed the league since 1975 and has remained the director for the past 30 seasons. The league originally played all their games at Colt Park in Hartford until 1997 when the program expanded to almost every Town in the Greater Hartford area. In 1983 the Greater Hartford Jaycees Foundation replaced the Hartford Jaycees as the co-sponsor of the Jaycee Courant League.
The purpose of the league is to allow youngsters from ages 13 to 19 the opportunity to play baseball during the summer months. The league requires adult supervision and these adults receive training in Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Philosophy, and discussions are held on legal liability. Teaching good sportsmanship, along with giving youngsters from the city and suburbs a chance to meet and compete with each other is of benefit to everyone. |
